Everyone knows how to create a folder and rename it. But we fails to create a folder with name CON, PRN, NUL, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, LPT9, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9 in Windows PC. The name are reserved for system.Whenever we try to create a folder with these names we will get some error message as The specific device name is invalid.

On the previous article we discuss about create folder without name and create folder without icon and now we will show you how to create folder with these restricted names (CON, PRN, NUL, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, LPT9, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9). it supports almost all version of Windows after Windows XP SP 2 (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows RT). You can also create a folder with any name without using Command Prompt.

How to create a folder with any name in Windows using Command Prompt (CMD)

1. Open Command Prompt.
2. Type mkdir\\.\[path where to create the folder]\[folder name] and hit enter to create a folder. On the folder name you can add any name from the CON, PRN, NUL, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, LPT9, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9.

Note: Suppose you want to create a CON folder on d:\mercenie folder. Then type c:\>mkdir\\.\d:\mercenie\con on the command prompt (cmd) screen.

3. You will able to create a folder on your desired name.
4. To delete those folder use rd command instead of mkdir on the cmd screen. (e.g. c:\>rd\\.\d:\mercenie\con). You can not delete that folder using delete option of windows.
5. That is it.
